International Women's Day 'Community Conversation' Project, Wiveliscombe

A Community Conversation

'Community Conversation' began as workshops forming part of Wiveliscombes' celebration of the centenary of International Women's Day,  bringing together local women, men and children to make 100 clay heads of women, culminating in an art work to be displayed at the 10 Parishes Arts Festival on 10th - 18th September 2011.

Who are the women who have inspired you throughout your life?
Which head is your favorite and why?

The workshops created an amazing opportunity for people of our community to share their thoughts and feelings on which women have been important to them in their lives and we hope you will add to this on-going dialogue. You maybe thinking of someone famous but doesn't have to be - many people involved in the workshops spoke deeply of family members and friends who had been an inspiration to them.
Others set out with no initial 'woman' in mind and simply let their 'woman' evolve through the process of making, whilst others explored mythological and archetypal women.

What emerges is a fascinating collection of different responses and a collective sharing of peoples experiences, thoughts and feelings around 'Women' and ultimately a rich and diverse celebration of the women. Join us in continuing this celebration!
